METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Next we slide the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use very high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!
